Press Release – Study Programme End Of Term Awards Celebration

They say time goes fast when you are having fun, this must be why another school year has whizzed past and we find ourselves ready to celebrate the amazing successes of our Study Programme students.

Edna Delaney CEO of Romney Resource Centre said “Education is something that can’t be taken away and investment in our young people is highly crucial to sustain the Romney Marsh and the young people’s futures.”

Romney Resource Centre in Mountfield Road, New Romney is immensely proud of everything that the students have achieved, and this can be seen in the awards given here today. The event was well attended by students, families, employers, local councillors, trustees and staff and it was a day dedicated to the amazing journey the students have taken over the last year.

The Study Programme team of dedicated staff have worked hard to support young people to achieve and improve their qualifications (which can include GCSE and Functional Skills in English & Maths, IT and Vocational Skills), increasing their personal development and gaining valuable work experience to introduce them to the world of work.

Speaking with the young people asking “what makes Romney Resource Centre’s Study Programme stand out from any other learning environment they have been in?”, the passion in their voices confirms why here at Romney Resource Centre, they excel and aspire to reach their ambitions.

Tom spoke highly “I feel like I have achieved great things that I didn’t feel I could before coming to Romney Resource Centre, the staff and tutors are amazing and really supportive and treated me like an adult and I feel I have been able to take ownership of my learning. My advice to any student joining in September is to be the very best you can and if you fall RRC will help pick you up again”

Chloe said “Before I came to Romney Resource Centre, I was not in education, and the Study programme has given me confidence and qualifications. They have a person-centred approach and is completely different to school. The classes are smaller, and the staff take an interest in you doing well. My advice to students starting in September is to enjoy yourself and take every opportunity given as it will be worth it in the end”

Bethany said “The Study Programme is amazing and has made a massive difference in my life not only as I have qualifications now, but I am more independent, and I understand how to deal with things as an adult”

Former student Robbie, who returned for the celebration and to inspire the graduating students, said “After leaving school I was not doing anything, I knew I needed to but didn’t know where I could get the help.  CXK suggested having a chat with Romney Resource Centre and it was the best thing I ever did. I enjoyed the programme especially the Work Readiness and Personal Development, I have managed to improve my grades in English and Maths and got a job with a local employer, I could not be happier now. The support I received was nothing like school and if you are willing you could be a success story like me”

Our trustees are equally as proud of our young people, and our Chairman Danny Martin said ‘The Study Programme Awards day is my favourite day in the Romney Resource Centre Calendar, it reminds everyone including trustees why we choose to be involved in making a massive difference in these young people’s lives’

With increased challenges faced by young people today, supportive staff and education programmes bespoke to their needs are becoming both increasingly important and rare to find. Romney Resource Centre take a vested interest in every person that walks through the door and works with them to enable them to reach their goals. From everyone here at RRC we would like to thank the students for their hard work, tenacity, dedication and wish them well on their future journey and look forward to hearing of their accomplishments.
